Embodying Tradition: Jianghuai Little Theater

The Jianghuai Little Theater, situated in Xuyi, Jiangsu Province, stands as a cultural gem nestled between the Huaihe River and the First Mountain. Adjacent to the historic First Mountain District, the site was once home to a vacant three-way courtyard, adorned with an abandoned water tower. In a region where tea drinking and Huangmei Opera appreciation are cherished pastimes, the concept of a teahouse-style theater seamlessly integrates with the local cultural ethos.

Conceptualization

The essence of the Jianghuai Little Theater transcends conventional theatrical paradigms. Rather than a typical performance venue, it aspires to be a cultural sanctuary rooted in the traditions of Huangmei Opera and Yushan Tea.
