Transforming Urban Spaces with The Union Rainscreens by BŌK Modern

Located at the first BART train stop in Oakland, The Union stands as a beacon of future-forward development within a vibrant and dynamic neighborhood. Designed in collaboration with David Baker Architects, The Union showcases the EnFold Façade by BŌK Modern, a revolutionary approach to affordable housing through modular design. This transformative project exemplifies BŌK Modern’s commitment to cohesive and innovative architectural solutions.

Collaborative Design Vision

The collaboration between EnFold Façade and David Baker Architects has resulted in a seamless translation of complex design visions into tangible reality. By selecting a transitional façade, EnFold Façade’s custom patterning creates visual harmony and elegance across all products, elevating the overall aesthetic of the development. Unlike traditional affordable housing, The Union sets a new standard for architectural excellence and innovation in the Bay Area.

Comprehensive Product Applications

BŌK Modern’s product applications at The Union encompass a wide range of architectural elements, including rainscreen façades with integrated sunshades, riveted panels, perimeter fencing with blade brackets, aluminum balconies, corten guardrails and stair guardrails, and gate shrouds. Each element contributes to the cohesive design language of the development, enhancing its visual appeal and functionality.

Overcoming Challenges with Innovation

One of the challenges faced during the project was the requirement for rainscreens to be cantilevered off the building. However, EnFold Façade’s adaptable panels were easily modified to meet the unique building conditions, ensuring a smooth installation process. Additionally, the innovative design of the balconies and sunshades, with their universal slots, further streamlined the installation process, demonstrating BŌK Modern’s commitment to efficiency and excellence.

Elevating Urban Spaces with Rainscreen Technology

As The Union prepares to become a future entry portal for the city of Oakland, BŌK EnFold Façade rainscreens add a unique visual depth to the facades, imbuing them with a sense of honesty and material authenticity. Despite cost limitations, BŌK Modern remains dedicated to elevating the aesthetic and functionality of affordable housing projects, setting new standards for urban development.
