Redefining Office Space Climb Maebashi Office by SAKUMAESHIMA

Located on the fourth floor of a former department store facing Maebashi Station in Gunma Prefecture, the Climb Maebashi Office represents a transformative approach to workspace design. SAKUMAESHIMA, the architectural firm behind the project, saw potential in the building’s unique characteristics, despite its initial impression of disrepair.

Embracing the Building’s Character

The department store building, characterized by limited natural light and a deep floor plan, initially seemed unsuitable for modern office use. However, rather than viewing these features as limitations, the architects recognized an opportunity to create a one-of-a-kind office space tailored to the needs of CLIMB, the organization occupying the space.

Fostering a Collaborative Environment

At the core of the project was the goal of fostering teamwork, security, workplace flexibility, and well-being within a reasonable budget. The architects aimed to design a flexible working space that authentically expressed CLIMB’s values and identity while prioritizing comfort and functionality.

Innovative Layout Zoning

The layout of the office began with the creation of a central “main street” running through the narrow planning area. Serving as the backbone of the project, this main street allows for the emergence of various workspaces that can be selected based on individual or team needs, promoting flexibility and adaptability.

Flexible Interior Design Solutions

To enhance the interior, the architects treated the existing concrete frame with a silver finish, creating a balanced and cohesive environment. The exposed ceiling serves a dual purpose as a structural framework for the equipment network while allowing for easy relocation and maintenance through open cable channels and poles.

Contributing to Urban Regeneration

Beyond creating a functional workspace, the Climb Maebashi Office embodies a commitment to urban and community revitalization.
